At Halifax we recognise that your privacy is very important to you, as it is to Halifax as well. We handle personal information provided by and about people every day. By personal information we mean information or an opinion about a person whose identity is apparent or can reasonably be ascertained.
We are bound by, and committed to supporting, the National Privacy Principles (“NPPs”) set out in the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2001. Our aim is to both support, and ensure that we comply with, the NPPs that form the basis of laws introduced to strengthen privacy protection for the general public. In order to comply with the requirements of the Privacy Act, we are required to advise you that this firm holds personal information about you. The information has been and will continue to be collected by us for the purpose of providing you with financial services including:
(a) the preparation of your Statement of Advice;
(b) the provision of financial planning advice to you;
(c) making securities and investment recommendations;
(d) reviewing your financial plan;
(e) reviewing securities and investment recommendations.
We are required, pursuant to the Corporations Act and certain regulations issued by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, to collect information about you for the purpose of providing you with the services referred to above. If you do not provide us with the information requested by us, we may not be able to provide you with the services you require of us.
We will from time to time disclose information about you to representatives of this firm and to other professionals, insurance providers, superannuation trustees, external service providers and product issuers in connection with the purposes detailed above. This will involve the transmission and storage of your information over the internet and by oither means. In the event we consider it necessary to use or disclose information about you for purposes other than those detailed above, or related purposes, we will seek your consent. In the event that another representative takes over responsibility for your files and information you will be advised of the transfer and will have the opportunity to request back your information. In the event that you do not request them back within 30 days we will assume that you are satisfied with our transfer of your files and information.
COMPLAINTS RESOLUTION
We are committed to providing clients, and other parties whose personal information we hold, a fair and responsible system for the handling of their complaints. If at any time you have any complaints in relation to privacy, please contact our Privacy Officer. We will seek to address any concerns that you have through our complaints handling processes, but if you wish to take matters further you may refer your concerns to the Office of the Federal Privacy Commissioner.
